Umbraco Deploy is Umbraco HQ's first-party deployment engine. It does its job — and from January 2026 the on-premises subscription is €2,800 / year, while cloud-bundled Deploy ties you to Umbraco Cloud hosting. DoubleSync sits in the same space at €500 / year, works on any Umbraco install, and ships a per-property merge UI Deploy doesn't.
Where the two products differ in practice
Per-property side picker
Deploy's documented workflow is transfer / queue / restore — source data replaces the target. DoubleSync detects differences down to the individual property and opens a side-by-side review using the actual Umbraco property editors. For each property you pick source or destination. DoubleSync assembles the resulting document from those picks.
No Umbraco Cloud lock-in
Deploy comes free with every Umbraco Cloud plan (€45 to €730+ / month depending on tier). Outside of Cloud it's a separate €2,800 / year subscription. DoubleSync is a NuGet package — drop it into Umbraco running on Azure, AWS, OVH, your own bare metal, Docker, on-prem, or Umbraco Cloud. Same price, same product.
Open file format
Deploy serialises schema as proprietary `.uda` files in your source control. DoubleSync uses transparent JSON snapshots — readable, diffable, portable. Switch sync tools whenever you want; your project doesn't go with you.
Bundled scope
Deploy transfers documents, media and (opt-in) members. DoubleSync covers documents, media (binaries included), users, user groups, members, and member groups, plus automatic restore points before destructive operations and a published audit trail — all in Pro.
