DoubleSync is for teams who host Umbraco themselves, or who want to review and merge content between environments. Here is an honest look at both.

Umbraco Deploy is a great fit when
- You host on Umbraco Cloud. Deploy is included in the plan, from €45 a month with hosting.
- You want the deployment engine that Umbraco itself builds and supports.
- Your workflow is schema through source control and your pipeline, and content moved from the backoffice with Queue for Transfer.
- You want content scheduled to publish at the destination when it arrives.
DoubleSync
DoubleSync is a great fit when
- You host anywhere else: Azure, AWS, OVH, your own servers, Docker or on-premises.
- You want to see every difference between two environments before anything is sent.
- Editors change content on live sites, and you want a side-by-side merge editor instead of a straight replacement.
- You want a safety checkpoint before every sync, on by default.

Choosing well
- If you are on Umbraco Cloud, Deploy is the natural choice, and it is already paid for.
- If you host elsewhere, you have two options: Deploy on-premises, or DoubleSync. We would be glad to help you compare them for your project.
How each one thinks
Deploy: two lanes, one clear model
Deploy separates schema from content. Schema, such as document types, data types and templates, travels as .uda files through your source control and pipeline. Content and media are moved from the backoffice: you queue items for transfer, and the item at the destination becomes an exact copy of the source. It is simple and predictable, and it is how Umbraco Cloud works.
DoubleSync: compare first, then choose
DoubleSync compares two live environments directly, lists every difference, and lets you apply the ones you pick. When the same page was edited on both sides, the merge editor lets you keep one side or the other for each property. A checkpoint is taken before anything moves.
Neither way is better in general. A straight copy is exactly what you want in some workflows, and a review is what you want in others.

Taking a new section live
DoubleSync
You compare the two environments, tick what should move, and apply. Everything in the list is something you chose.
Umbraco Deploy
You queue the section for transfer and run the transfer from the Deployment dashboard. You can set when it publishes at the destination.

DoubleSync shows the difference, and for pages edited on both sides, the merge editor lets you decide property by property.
Umbraco Deploy
Deploy makes the destination item an exact copy of the source. That is by design, and it keeps the result predictable.

Deploy has Restore options for a whole environment, a content tree or a single page, so a fresh local copy is quick.

Is DoubleSync a replacement for Umbraco Deploy?
Not on Umbraco Cloud, where Deploy is built in and the natural choice. For self-hosted projects, DoubleSync is an alternative with a different approach: compare first, then choose what moves.
Are you competing with Umbraco?
No. Double Shore is an official Umbraco partner. Deploy is a great product, and we recommend it on Umbraco Cloud. DoubleSync exists for the cases it was not built for.
Does DoubleSync work on Umbraco Cloud?
It is a regular NuGet package for Umbraco 17, so it can be installed on any Umbraco site. On Umbraco Cloud, check with us first about how you want to split the work with Deploy.
